For nearly three decades, I owned and operated The Lodge Recording Studios in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it wasn't uncommon to see world-class artists and bands walk through the doors to create music.

Over the years, artists such as Eminem, John Legend, Ryan Tedder (One Republic), Ben Folds, Jack Johnson, and bands including Weezer, Goo Goo Dolls, Queens of the Stone Age, and Papa Roach recorded projects at The Lodge.

Hi, I'm Michael Graham, and I've spent most of my adult life as a recording engineer and music producer.

My musical journey began with the trumpet before I switched to guitar and played in several rock bands. Early on, I realized that while I loved performing, my true passion wasn't being on stage. It was in the studio, helping shape songs, refine arrangements, and bring out the very best in an artist's vision. That realization led me toward production and engineering, a path that has been both rewarding and inspiring for more than 40 years.

Like many people in this business, I've been fortunate to find myself in the right place at the right time. Along the way, I've had the privilege of working with talented musicians, producers, and songwriters whose creativity and mentorship helped shape my career.The Lodge itself was a special place. Housed in a historic 1922 Masonic Lodge, the studio featured soaring 25-foot columns, stone wall sconces, and an atmosphere that seemed to say, "Come make some music." It became a destination studio for artists from all over the country and remained my creative home for nearly 30 years.

When the pandemic forced The Lodge to close, I thought my chapter in recording studio ownership had come to an end. As it turns out, fate had other plans.

Not long after the closure, longtime clients began calling, asking to return to Indianapolis to record new projects. When I explained that The Lodge was gone, their response was simple: "You'll figure something out."So I did.I partnered with The Palladium, a beautiful 1,500-seat concert hall just north of Indianapolis, to accommodate large-scale orchestral recordings. At the same time, I built a new production space, The Down Lounge, where I handle mixing, editing, overdubs, and smaller recording projects.

While I certainly miss The Lodge, I've learned that music has a way of opening new doors when old ones close.

After more than four decades in music production, I can honestly say there hasn't been a single day when I wasn't excited to get into the studio and work on a song. I still feel the same passion today that I felt when I first started.And for that, I'm incredibly grateful.
