Craig Says # 5 - 2021 On The Horizon & Not A Moment Too Soon…

Welcome to all the new people who have taken time out to join the mailing list and check out my albums and tracks through my website and various social platforms around the world thanks very much it is much appreciated…

The new 2021 album is half finished, the final mixing and mastering is penciled in for late February and the drop date should be March 24th

Covid-19 has changed how things are done in the music business and how music is produced and perceived by you the discerning music buying public.

The focus is on more personal involvement and interactions between artists and fans and although I am a novice when it comes to social media I am fortunate enough to have very good advisors and information sources that are very slowly starting to make a difference to my reach and general online presence…

I have a totally different way of writing now, heavily inspired by Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin, when I saw the movie ‘Rocket Man’ I was intrigued by their way of working on lyrics and music separately; obviously Elton John composed the music while Bernie Taupin worked on the lyrics but either way I had to give that method of composing a  go…

The results are quite striking as the lyrics develop without the distraction of trying to put music to them simultaneously which can negatively impact on a song if your trying to change words or music to make either one fit with the other; plus you can go all out on lyrics to produce a much stronger final product. Once a good lyric is down it’s relatively easy to build the music tracks around them and in hindsight I should have worked that way years ago… but I always was a ‘late developer’…

Production wise I’m picking the final mix will be the best I have ever done based on some expert advice that has cured me of some really bad habits when recording and mixing music… I won’t say too much but compression and reverb were two things that I had misused in the past; my conscience is now clear and we will move on…

Watching the lead up to Sir Paul McCartney’s new album ‘McCartney III’ I was impressed by the little teaser videos that appeared here and there and being keen to try new things, I have put one small preview out and will do another two or three as things progress towards the drop date… Check it out here...

2020 has been the sort of year you have when ‘you’re not really having a year’; more of an unfortunate layover while the world restructures and adjusts to the ‘new normal’ following the pandemic most people didn’t think we’d get…

I think we are a way off even considering ‘live shows;’ all of the one’s we were planning could never have gone ahead and the interesting pattern of events towards the end of last year with ongoing problems with getting the right lead guitarist on-board now looks more like some sort of ‘Karmic intervention’… bad luck we couldn’t get the show on the road and good luck that we hadn’t got to the point of no return with shows that ultimately would have caused major financial losses to all involved…

So, enough about me and we get to the final comment for 2020 which is thank you all for your support and interest this year – I hope you, me and the world all manage to have a good Christmas and Happy New Year as we push this year into the mists of time and clear the decks for a bigger, brighter and better 2021…

Onwards, Upwards and Sideways…

Best wishes…

Craig Payne…
